March 29th, 2008 (St. George’s): The 2008 Cable &
Wireless/ GNA Netball Tournament got off to a grand start on
Saturday. Fifteen teams have registered to participate including
the return of the Royal Grenada Police Force Team. The ladies were
all finely turned out in their uniforms and the march past began
from the Cable & Wireless Headquarters on the Carenage and
accompanied by the PBC Marching Band the procession made its way
over to the Tanteen Netball Court.
The proceedings were well attended under the
gracious patronage of Lady Gloria Williams. GNA President, Patsy
Dragon delivered the welcoming remarks and thanked the main sponsor,
C&W for more than fifteen (15) years of unbroken sponsorship, making
the company she said “not only our main sponsor, but the backbone of
the GNA.” She also thanked the many business houses that have
sponsored individual teams making the games possible.
The C&W/GNA Netball Tournament will continue
over the next several weeks. Speaking at the opening, C&W Marketing
Communications Manager, Sheldon Keens-Douglas, again re-iterated his
company’s pleasure at being considered an integral part of Netball
in the country for so many years and he indicated that “now more
than ever, as C&W customers also become shareholders in the company,
that the relationship between customers and the company would become
even stronger and the company is more than ever striving to share
and support the pursuits and passions of the communities that they
serve.”
The C&W National Netball tournament has always
been known for keen competition and the GNA and sponsors hope that
the public will continue to support the games as they have in the
past. Admission to the games costs Adults $5 and $3 Children at the
Tanteen Netball Court.
