Cable & Wireless has contributed $10,000
towards the hosting of the Grenada National Abstinence Programme.
The presentation was made by Chief Executive of Cable & Wireless Ian
Blanchard to Fr. Ronald Holder on Monday 14th April.
The programme is organized by the Catholic
Diocesan Youth Ministry and will be held at Mt. St. Ervans Retreat
Centre. The exercise is aimed at supporting the efforts of various
national organizations committed to fight HIV/AIDS, in addition to
the growing rise of negative behavior patterns, which lead to an
increase in alcohol usage, drug abuse and violence. According to
the organizers the forum is a response to the call by many sectors
of society for the Church community to become more proactive in the
battle to eradicate the AIDS epidemic and promote values and virtues
in Grenada’s youth and by extension inevitable the Grenadian and
Caribbean Community.
Presenting the cheque to Fr. Holder Mr.
Blanchard said “Cable & Wireless as a responsible corporate citizen
sees it fit to support this programme which will help to instill
values in our young people. We are hopeful that programmes like
these assist with restoring the moral fabric of our society.”
The programme will train persons to be
instructors of the abstinence model so that they in turn will be
able to provide training to teachers, youth leaders, parents and
other interested persons.
