Greens bMobile Cycling Event a Huge Success - 16 June, 2008
 

 

 

 
 


“A great weekend for cycling” was the statement used by participants and organizers to describe the bMobile Green’s Bicycle event held on the weekend of Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th. June.

The Greens bMobile Bicycle Race now into its eighth year is one of the region’s most anticipated cycling events.  With the introduction of the Criterium race this year the event was held over a two day period. The Criterium race was held on the Saturday and Sunday saw the keenly contested Road Races.

Saturday’s Criterium  was divided into four categories, Senior Road Bike, Junior Road Bike, Mountain Bike and Masters (over 50).  The winners were: Godwin Jones (Barbados), Renaldo Carrington (Barbados), Kennis Flanders (Grenada) and Andy Chalmars (Trinidad) respectively. The Senior Bikers started the race at the Sauteurs Bus terminus whilst the Juniors began at Red Gate, St. David’s on Sunday. They all crossed the finish line at Tanteen. The top places were captured by Courtney Mark (Trinidad) Senior Road Bike, Lamal Eastman (Barbados) Junior Road Bike, Kennis Flanders (Grenada) Mountain Bike, Bernard Marshall (Grenada) BMX, Donna Polland (Trinidad) Female and Godfrey Clyne (Trinidad) Masters.

Grenada’s Kennis Flanders emerged the overall best performer, securing victory on both days of the competition.

A delighted Glen Charles was presented with a beautifully branded bMobile 26” Mountain Bike and helmet by bMobile Product Manager Vidya Singh. Mr. Charles won the bMobile texting competition which was run for the second time this year. The winner’s trophy was presented to Kennis Flanders by Sheldon Keens Douglas, Marketing Communications Manager, Cable & Wireless. At  the presentation Mr. Keens Douglas reiterated Cable & Wireless’ commitment to Sports in Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique.  He noted that “the Company would continue to sponsor events of this kind given the healthy alternative it presents to Grenada’s youth and the opportunity to showcase the great athletic talent in Grenada.”
