Viewers of the Cable & Wireless Displays at the Tech Fair held at the Grenada Trade Centre last Sunday were treated to an in depth show of the company’s use of Technology. Various aspects of telecommunications were displayed.

An interesting line plant set-up which enables telecommunications services to be accessible to commercial and residential customers was fully explained to interested audiences as they were walked through the plant.

A group of young people could be seen attentively listening to what the IT experts had to say about the internet progression from Windows 95 to present. Commercial customers showed amazement at what is available to them as the new technology was thoroughly explained.

bMobile showed off its e-top-up vending machine which allows customers to put credit on their phones themselves, similar to an ATM type transaction.  “This machine is to the mobile industry what the ABM is to the banking industry” is the observation made by one user. Children were eagerly having their pictures taken using mobile phones with instant printing available at the booth.  Laughter could be heard as the much bigger TDMA mobile phones were compared with GSM handsets which fit comfortably in the palm of one’s hands.

The highlight of the display was the switchboard which was used before most of the workers presently employed with Cable & Wireless joined the company. Even the persons doing the demonstration chuckled whilst they explained the use of this precious antique.

According to Marketing Communications Executive, Josephine Walters “Our aim was to educate the public about the Company’s use of technology to deliver products and services that meet and surpass our customers’ needs, we also thought it fitting to show the progression in the telecommunications industry, something customers found very interesting and fascinating.”
